'Metal Gear Solid HD' Includes 'Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence,' We Think

"Metal Gear" creator Hideo Kojima is about as prolific on Twitter as Guided By Voice's Bob Pollard is with songwriting. The guy just tweets absolutely everything that pops in his head, like what he's eating and existential thoughts on architecture. Well, today Kojima actually dispersed with some knowledge on the upcoming "Metal Gear Solid HD Collection," letting us in on some (confusing) details for what's looking like a promising release for series fans.

Konami and Kojima Productions announced the remastered "Metal Gear" set back in June, just before E3 2011 kicked off. The collection includes HD versions of the series' "Solid" iterations, "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty," "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater," and the PlayStation Portable game "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker."
When Kojima made the announcement, I was a little unclear as to why the original "Metal Gear Solid" was left out. Based on Kojima's tweets – OK, I'm even more confused.
"[The Japanese version has] a product code for 'MGS1' and 'MGS3' is subsistence specification, so 'MG1' and 'MG2' which were sold on MSX are included," Kojima tweeted, later adding, "Overseas edition is a package of MGS2, MGS3, and [Peace Walker]."
All right, so – the Japanese version of "Metal Gear Solid HD" includes the "Subsistence" version of "Metal Gear Solid 3," and therefore also gets the old MX "Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear 2." In addition, the Japanese version will have a code for "Metal Gear Solid." The North American release will have "Peace Walker," but just the original "Snake Eater" version of "Metal gear Solid 3?" Does your brain hurt yet?
Adding to the confusion was an additional tweet by Kojima stating that the HD version of "Metal Gear Solid 2" would be the "Subsistence" version. Of course, there is no "Subsistence" version of "Metal Gear Solid 2," but there was a "Substance" version. I'm going to assume that's what he meant.
This is about as confusing as a "Metal Gear" plot, so I suppose it makes sense in some strange way. I have a really crazy idea: just release the same package, localized to the region.
[Thanks, Joystiq]
